he growth of the national commercial vehicle industry continues to be strengthened through investment, enhanced local production, and the development of environmentally friendly technologies carried out by Hino Motors Ltd Japan together with its entities in Indonesia. This was conveyed during a meeting between the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Faisol Riza, and Hino’s management, namely Satyakam Arya, President & CEO as well as Member of the Board of Directors of Hino Motors Ltd (HML) Japan, Shingo Sakai, President Director of PT Hino Motors Sales Indonesia (HMSI), and Hiroshi Terawaki, President Director of PT Hino Motors Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI), along with other Hino Indonesia management representatives. The meeting discussed developments in the commercial vehicle industry, strengthening Hino’s manufacturing role in Indonesia, and opportunities to position Indonesia as a global production and export base.
During the meeting, Hino highlighted its contribution to the national automotive industry through investment and domestic production capacity. To date, Hino’s investment in Indonesia has reached USD 112.5 million, supported by a production capacity of up to 75,000 units per year. In addition, Hino’s manufacturing activities employ around 1,547 workers, playing an important role in sustaining the national commercial vehicle industry amid market dynamics.
In addition to strengthening domestic production, Hino is also targeting Indonesia as a global export hub for commercial vehicles. Supported by increasingly robust production facilities and a strong local supply chain, Indonesia is considered to have significant potential to become a production base for commercial vehicles for both regional and international markets. This step is expected to enhance the competitiveness of the national automotive industry while contributing more significantly to Indonesia’s economy.
As part of its efforts to increase domestic value creation, Hino continues to raise the local content of its products. Currently, Hino’s Domestic Component Level (TKDN) ranges from 44.35% to 57.26% across various vehicle types. Notably, for six vehicle models—Hino 300 Series 115 SD, 136 HD, 136 HDX, 136 MDL, 115 SDB, and 115 SDBL—the TKDN has reached 71.85%. This increase in local content demonstrates the strengthening of the national component industry as well as Hino’s commitment to supporting the domestic manufacturing ecosystem.
Beyond production, Hino also contributes through human resource development programs and corporate social responsibility initiatives. These efforts include vocational education programs, support for laboratory facilities, and collaborations with various educational institutions to improve the quality of Indonesia’s automotive workforce.
The government also encourages closer collaboration between industry players and stakeholders to accelerate the optimization of national production capacity. Through such synergy, Indonesia’s automotive industry is expected to continue growing, become more competitive, and make a greater contribution to the national economy.
“This strategic step further strengthens Hino’s position as one of the key players in Indonesia’s commercial vehicle sector. In addition to focusing on increasing local production, we also ensure comprehensive after-sales support to maintain our customers’ vehicle performance. Through our extensive service network, spare parts availability, periodic maintenance services, and professional technical support, we strive to ensure our customers’ operations remain optimal and productive across various industries,” concluded Shingo Sakai, President Director of HMSI.
